Lucca Jay is a photographer and designer based in South Carolina, originally from New York. His work sits between documentation and observation, focusing on environments that are shifting, unstable, or in transition. Working primarily in photography, both digital and analog, he approaches image-making as a way of studying place rather than simply capturing it.
His practice centers on coastal and natural systems, often looking at erosion, changing landscapes, and the tension between built and natural environments. Influenced by time spent outdoors through fishing and surfing, his work reflects a familiarity with these spaces, but also an awareness of how quickly they can change. The images tend to move between clarity and ambiguity, where surface detail becomes a way of understanding something larger that isn’t fully visible.
He is currently completing a degree in Graphic Design with a minor in Photography at Coastal Carolina University. Alongside his academic work, he has contributed to documentary-focused projects centered on environmental research and coastal conditions. His current work continues to explore the relationship between image, environment, and long-term change.
